An initial concept was approved, but there were gaps—primarily around ensuring that all user roles were represented and mobile design was up to par. We thought we just needed a quick UI cleanup and some alignment for mobile…turns out, there was more work to be done.

Adapting a Web Design for Mobile Introduces New Challenges

I created a table to prioritize key mobile actions for each role. Mobile design was harder than expected, with initial feedback from mobile developers favoring a tabbed design for limited space. But upon reflecting on this, I realized the same confusion existed on the web version, just less obvious.

Reevaluating a Mobile-First Design Introduces Historical Design Debates

I pushed for a mobile-first approach, testing a more radical design with a minimal bottom bar. This included changes that would reach web as well.

I socialized this idea with the team, discovering some historical design debates that had impacted the platform’s structure. It was clear that I needed data to back up my design vision, so I advocated for additional user testing to validate my ideas.

Drafting and Testing the Original Concept for Web

I worked on a web test alongside mobile design. While we initially planned to test both platforms simultaneously, I shifted focus to tree testing for web usability. The first round didn’t yield enough results, but after adding incentives, the response rate increased significantly.
